July 15, 2019 – One year, Six and a half months after launching the Podcast Atlantic directory I am please to announce that we have reached Podcast number 150.   The podcast that got us there was from Firm Foundation Media, Stewiacke Vibe is a lively podcast all about the little Nova Scotia berg that has earned the title, “Halfway to the Equator”.

February 2018 the Podcast Atlantic website was launched and the directory at that time had five podcasts listed.  I had my work cut out for me.  The reason for the directory in the first place was because, as a fan of podcasts I wanted to listen to more regional/local content but could not find any.  I was told that there was probably a few dozen out there so I began to research.  There are best of lists out there and I did find some podcasts that way but for the most part I found that the best way to find these podcasts was through other podcasters.  So, I started following any local podcaster I knew of on all their social media platforms.  By June of 2018 I had reached 50 podcasts.  Surely, I was nearing the end??  There was no way to know.

I was pleased that podcasters where finally reaching out to me about getting on the directory.  Why wouldn’t they?  It doesn’t cost anything and new episodes that are released get promoted each day.  Still, only about twenty percent of podcasters where reaching out to me.  I continued my sleuthing and kept building the directory.  By mid September 2018 we reached 100 Atlantic Canadian produced podcasts on the directory.  Very cool.

In the meantime, I began building the other side of Podcast Atlantic … the production of podcasts.  I have been a storyteller and broadcaster for over 30 years, and I felt I could help others get their stories told.  Slowly everything was coming together.

From September 2018 to mid July 2019 the directory’s growth slowed but had steady growth.  After this past springs Atlantic Podcast Summit (not related to Podcast Atlantic) the directory received a spike of new entries.  There is such a great interest in this region’s storytellers.  So much so that the directory’s 150 listed podcasts make it the biggest in Canada, even beating out the CBC’s 113.

Podcasting is here to stay folks.  If you are thinking of starting a podcast in Atlantic Canada, there are so many resources for you.  And you won’t find better support.  Podcast producers such as Village SoundCast, One Red Cat Media and Firm Foundation Media to name a few, are great resources. I am please to be able to promote any and all podcasts they produce.  Sure, we may compete in some areas, but we also are happy for each others success.  There is a lot to go around.

If you have a podcast that is not listed on the directory what are you waiting for.  As mentioned above, there is no cost and your new episodes get promoted on Podcast Atlantic’s social media platforms.  https://podcastatlantic.com/podcast-submission/
