Scott Squires says he saw this coming. What did he see? He saw how massively influential social media was becoming. Being “social” comes easy for Scott. When you meet him for the first time you find someone with a contagious smile, a warm handshake and a desire to share. I met Scott in 2001 when he was a student at Atlantic Media Institute in Halifax and I was a Manager at Eastlink TV. He was always the first to volunteer and the last to leave a location shoot. In 2003, when an opening for a position as a producer at Eastlink TV came up it wasn’t hard to see who would best fit the job.  Once at Eastlink, Scott became one of the “go to” guys for all things sports and entertainment.  He was as capable with the side lines as he was with the hosting seat.  Sports was not his only interest.  Soon he was hosting Eastlink’s weekly magazine program, Atlantic Filmmakers, The Atlantic Film Festival programs and the hugely popular Swap Shop.

After Scott moved on, he dabbled in non-media types of business but was soon drawn back into the world of communication.  In 2013 he started his own company, Firm Foundation Media. This allowed him to pursue his dream of owning and operating his own Video Production Company, while providing him the freedom and flexibility to explore his creativity.  Social media plays a big part in his company. “Two trends became more and more useful in social streaming – Twitter and Periscope.”  These platforms, along with Facebook Live would allow him to live stream events and interviews.  Within the past two years Scott started podcasting.  He saw immense potential in the young medium.

When it comes to podcasting Scott loves to go Live.  He says, “It brings value”.  He makes sure his subject is comfortable and knows what to expect.  He also believes a pre-interview is helpful. Sports are big at Firm Foundation Media.  Currently Scott has produced three podcasts about the subject they are Inside the NBLC, Magic Time Podcast & Firm Foundation Media SportsHe covers current events with his Firm Foundation Media and beginning Monday, March 5 at 4pm he launches Firm Foundation Media Travel Destinations with a live stream interview from Bent Ridge Winery.

The future looks very bright for Firm Foundation Media.  Scott says you don’t have to be a big player to get into this “game”.  When it comes to the large networks and communication companies he says, “The landscape is changing and if you don’t figure out a way to have some kind of footprint on digital media, outside of your customer base, I don’t know how the big players will survive”.  Expect more in the coming weeks and months from Scott Squires.  He’s just getting started.
